Unexpected Turin

Yumi armchairs in the cover story of January issue of Icon Design

The January issue of Icon Design, the renowned interior design magazine, published by Mondadori Group, inaugurates the year with a special project: the home of the interior designer Hyemin Ro – from Korea, arrived in Italy for a University internship – and her husband Davide Barreri, architect, in Turin. A true fellowship for a four-handed project: they are in fact collaborators of Cantarutti for whom they design exhibition spaces and sets of photo shooting. A balance of Italian icons, Munari and Castiglioni, and Scandinavian style, Louis Poulsen; modern objets trouvé and novelties such as the Yumi armchairs by Cantarutti, designed by Enzo Berti, and the Ribbon stool by Anderssen & Voll.

Excerpt from Icon Design, interview by Francesca Esposito

“A project imagined, designed, thought together, with complicity. Davide took care of the direction of the works, Hyemin chose the furnishings, the materials and pastel colors that make it a living chromorama. «I used a lot of shades of green and blue for their ability to offer calm and tranquility, in the kitchen I preferred the red that creates appetite. In the bedroom, on the other hand, I went back to the colors that most help to relax.»”

“Ever since I was a young student, my dream was to collect Italian design, Made in Italy. I had a professor in Seoul who, not before teaching me to make coffee and listening to Subsonica, transmitted me a huge passion for the design: not only decoration and beauty but also the functional aspect.”
